Skiing and snowboarding should be a great experience! Especially when your kids are just getting started! Properly sized equipment makes learning easier, more comfortable, and a whole lot more fun.

That’s why we created our Junior Half Back Program. Instead of buying oversized equipment for your child to “grow into,” you can get them properly fitted gear now and trade it in as they grow.

How Does It Work?

1. Gear Up
Purchase new Junior skis, a snowboard and/or Junior boots at Gates & Boards.

2. Hit the Slopes
Let them ski, ride, learn and have fun all season long!

3. Bring It Back Next Season
Return the eligible equipment the following ski season and receive 50% of the original purchase price back as in-store credit.

4. Size Up
Use your credit toward their next pair of skis, boots, snowboard — or anything else in the store!

Keeping It for Another Season?

No problem! If the gear still fits, keep using it.

Bring eligible equipment back after a second season and receive 25% of the original purchase price back as in-store credit.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to keep my receipt?

Nope! We keep a record of your purchase for you. We just need a name and phone number attached to the original purchase so we can look it up when you return.

What if we keep the gear for a second season?

That’s totally fine. If your child gets another season out of their equipment, you can trade eligible gear in after the second season for 25% of the original purchase price.

What if our current Junior equipment wasn't purchased at Gates & Boards?

Bring it in! We may still be able to accept Junior equipment purchased elsewhere as a trade-in. Our team will inspect the gear and provide a trade-in estimate based on its condition and value.

What if my child doesn't want to ski or snowboard anymore?

No problem. Your eligible Half Back equipment can still be traded in, and the in-store credit can be used toward anything you like at Gates & Boards.

Is all Junior equipment eligible?

Most Junior skis, snowboards and boots qualify, but there are a few exceptions and maximum credit amounts.

We do not accept:

Ski or snowboard helmets
Goggles
Ski poles
Broken, damaged or unusable equipment

Maximum Half Back credit:

Junior Skis with Bindings: Up to $200
Junior Ski/Snowboard Boots: Up to $100
Junior Snowboards with Bindings: Up to $250

All equipment is subject to inspection and must be in usable condition to qualify.

Can I use the program if I purchased my equipment online?

Absolutely! Equipment purchased online from Gates & Boards can still qualify for the Half Back Program.

The equipment must be physically returned to our store for inspection. Any freight or shipping costs associated with returning the equipment are the customer's responsibility.

Do you buy back used Adult equipment?

No. Our Half Back Program is exclusively for Junior equipment.

For the purposes of the program, Junior equipment is limited to:

Skis: Up to 140 cm
Ski Boots: Up to 26.5 MP
Snowboards: Up to 145 cm
Snowboard Boots: Up to US Youth 7
